There is no need for farmers to worry as there is still time to sow crops, the Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University said.
The Agriculture University’s Research Director, Dr P. Raghurami Reddy, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said that there is no need for farmers to worry due to the absence of timely rains as there is still time for sowing.
He said that farmers who want to cultivate paddy must sow a short-term (less than 125 days) variety and that farmers should concentrate on direct sowing. Dr Raghurami said that farmers have time till July 20 if they want to cultivate cotton. But farmers must sow seeds only after 50 to 56 per cent rains are recorded in light soils and 60 to 75 per cent in hard soils. He said that red gram can be a good intercrop with cotton.
He said that farmers can cultivate red gram as an intercrop in black gram, green gram, cotton and mustard fields and that red gram seeds can be sown till August 15.
He said that farmers can sow soybeans till the end of June and the first week of July and maize can be sown till July 15. He suggested farmers must follow the Bodhe and Saalla system to ensure wetness for the crop.
He said that Green Gram and Black Gram can be sowed till July 15 and that farmers can harvest huge quantities of grain if they follow directions during sowing. caster, sunflower and horse gram can be sowed till July 31, Dr Raghurami added.
