The Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) announced that there will be no increase in electricity tariffs for any consumer category for the financial year 2025-26.
The Southern and Northern Power Distribution Companies of Telangana (TGSPDCL and TGNPDCL) had filed petitions under Section 64 of the Electricity Act, 2003, on January 28.
They claimed a total Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) of Rs 65,849.74 crore, but the Commission approved an ARR of Rs 58,628.09 crore, TGERC Chairman Dr Justice Devaraju Nagarjun said.
Addressing the discrepancy in the claimed amounts, the Chairman noted that DISCOMs often overproject agricultural sales, while the Commission uses its own methodology to arrive at more accurate figures.
Dr Nagarjun also warned that if excessive power consumption continues, Telangana may face a power deficit by 2030. He said that there is need for responsible usage and pointed out that renewable energy adoption or tariff hikes may become necessary, but an increase in tariff could burden the common citizen.
Regarding revenue gaps, the Commission approved Rs 13,122.04 crore for TGDISCOMs and Rs 377.37 crore for CESS, compared to the originally proposed gaps of Rs 20,151 crore and Rs 446.21 crore respectively.
Other key decisions include: For LT-IX EV charging stations, the contracted load limit has been enhanced from 56 kW/75 HP to 150 kW/201 HP. Grid Support Charges have been fixed at Rs 18.48/kW/month, lower than the proposed Rs 20.04/kW/month.
