Only seven women got a BRS ticket. They are Sabitha Indra Reddy from Maheswaram, Padma Devender Reddy from Medak, Banoth Haripriya Naik from Yellandu, Gongidi Sunitha from Alair, Kova Lakshmi from Asifabad, G. Lasya Nanditha from Secunderabad Cantonment and Bade Nagajyothi from Mulugu.
This announcement cleared speculations about MLC Kavitha contesting the Assembly election.
When KCR was asked about not implementing the 33% representation for women, he said, “It’s not like that. We have given representation. We have not denied them seats. 33% can be ensured only through reservation in the legislative body. There is a need for a Constitutional amendment which we are demanding. When there is compulsion, all parties will field ladies. Then we will not have a problem. In present circumstances the party took a decision in its best interests.”
