‘Not the best beaches in the world in Wales,’ professes Purab Kohli

Must read

This week for our weekly column of Travel Tales, actor Purab Kohli, gushes about the adventurous time, he and his family spent on their recent trip to Wales.

SHIKHA DUGGAL

The very famous cult actor Purab Kohli was recently spotted in this small country Wales—from mountains to coastlines, as a family, they saw it all. There was a lot to see and experience when we caught hold of Woh Lamhe fame and he couldn’t stop gushing about the adventurous time he spent there.

“This is not my first trip to Wales, we have gone quite often there since I moved to England completely. We like going to see the sea there, it’s a cold sea! Cold water swimming is something that I love doing. So rejuvenating. Every time we go on a holiday, we try and choose a beach because getting into the sea is the best activity.” So his trip was great, he had a brilliant summer and what would one crave for?
The actor continued, “I saw lots of small towns, their histories, even the old trees! Saw the highest peaks! I have trekked a lot in national parks. The locals are very thoughtful there. Great poets come out of Wales! They have a culture that’s independent of the English.”

Not the best beaches in the world as Purab claims, but the vibe is different. That’s how he got addicted to the cold sea swimming there! Coming back to his homeland, he said, “Every two-three hundred kilometers away — everything changes in our country. That’s the beauty of India. I hosted so many travel shows for channel V and travelled across the country, it was definitely a privilege! And every mode of transportation. I have studied travelling through my country and the northeast is something else only. Bihar is magnificent!” In Wales, Purab and his family were staying at a rented cottage and that’s really his preference.

“European hotels are expensive, the services offered to a customer are very different in terms of the value of the money. But when we do stay at a hotel it needs to be child friendly! Otherwise, usually, it’s these cottages that are isolated up at nature. Hotels are overcrowded. And I don’t think you can really talk of delectable cuisine in Wales. The other cities, yes! You can’t have a culinary experience in Wales. Wild swimming experiences were liberating to me in Wales. You can walk into the caves while taking a dip!” So on the whole what we understood from Purab Kohli’s travel tales was that he was looking for newness, he was looking for an experience to test himself. Fun activities to do! His kids love explorations, they do treks with their dadda and it’s so cool. It does get a bit too much sometimes and then there is Purab bribing them with chocolates and ice creams (we laughed out together).

“I love Mumbai, love coming back but to be honest find it difficult to “live” there now. It’s again, overcrowded. Commuting especially for work becomes so difficult! I have always landed up at work feeling very exhausted already, didn’t want to deal with that traffic anymore so I moved out. And I use public transport! Now I look at Mumbai as a holiday city, I don’t even choose to work there. I just come here to connect with family and colleagues.”
