The NTR district police have embraced technological advancements by introducing drones to enhance policing operations. At a programme held at the Police Command and Control Centre, drones were distributed to all police stations under the NTR District Police Commissionerate.
Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu presided over the event, which saw the participation of dignitaries, including MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), Municipal Commissioner Dhyan Chand, and MLAs Gadde Rammohan, Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao, and Vasantha Krishna Prasad. Senior police officers, including DCPs Gautami Shali and Thirumaleshwar Reddy, were also present.
Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu highlighted that drones would play a crucial role in crime prevention, traffic management, and crowd control. He emphasised that the technology would enable efficient surveillance of high-risk areas, aid in crime scene analysis, and facilitate live traffic monitoring. Additionally, drones can be used for crowd dispersal and controlling unrest through tear gas deployment. He described this as a step towards “invisible policing,” ensuring public safety with minimal manpower.
MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) expressed satisfaction at donating 10 drones, with contributions from other donors bringing the total to 15. He announced that over 500 women police officers would be trained in drone operations, with 100 already completing their training.
Municipal Commissioner Dhyan Chand noted that Vijayawada’s traffic congestion has been reduced using AI tools at traffic junctions, complemented by drones for crowd regulation during the recent Dasara festival.
The event concluded with the distribution of drones to 28 police stations, marking a significant milestone in the NTR District Police’s efforts to integrate technology into policing, thereby ensuring a safer and more efficient city.
