Officials bust human plasma, blood collection racket

On the basis of credible information, Drugs Control Administration (DCA) officials carried out a raid on Friday at ‘Haemo Service Laboratories’ located in a residential building at Bhavani Nagar in Moosapet, Hyderabad. The officials busted a racket of human plasma and human blood collection from various blood banks located in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and unauthorised stocking and sale to various entities.
During the raid, they found huge stocks of human plasma bags and bottles stocked in the freezers located on the premises. Stocks of human serum and human blood were also found in the freezers.
The culprit R Raghavendra Naik has been running the firm ‘Haemo Service Laboratories’ for the last eight years in the apartment and collecting plasma from various blood banks illegally and stocking them for sale in an unauthorised manner. He procured more than 6,000 units from the blood banks since 2016 and sold them at huge profits. The DCA found that human plasma bag (150 ml) was procured illegally from blood banks at Rs 700 was sold at Rs 3,800 to the firms.  He was also carrying out repacking of human plasma, blood and serum on the premises in extremely unhygienic conditions.
On further investigation, Naik revealed that he illegally procured the units from Srikara Hospital Blood Bank, Mythri Nagar, Madinaguda, Miyapur, Ranga Reddy district, New Life Blood Center, Abid Ali Khan Lions Eye Hospital, Darulshifa, Hyderabad and RR Hospital Blood Bank, Bhagya Nagar, Dharmapet, Kurnool.
Furthermore, DCA officials found in-vitro diagnostic kits regarding HIV, HCV, HBsAg, VDRL and Malarial Parasite stocked at the premises. They seized stocks found at the premises along with certain documents. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
