District Collector Sumit Kumar has directed the election officials to take steps to enhance the polling percentage in the district and he called upon voters to exercise their right to vote.
He said in a statement on Friday that voter registration programmes were organised in the district for a year to create awareness among the people and all the eligible voters are being registered as voters.
The Collector said that there are a total number of 14,63,014 voters in the district in all seven Assembly segments. He said that the polling percentage was recorded higher in the rural areas and at the same time, a low percentage of polling was registered in urban areas in the last election. Everyone is requested to exercise their precious right to vote as the government will declare a holiday on polling day, he said.
“Since polling centres are being set up in all areas that are accessible to the respective voters, everyone should exercise their right to vote and increase the polling percentage. All the polling centres in the district are being provided infrastructure without any inconvenience to the voters,” the Collector appealed to the voters.
Sumit Kumar said that all measures are being taken to create a peaceful atmosphere for the voters to exercise the right to vote freely and fearlessly and also to build confidence among the voters.
As part of this, under the direction of the Central forces, police are conducting flag marches being held at problematic and extremely problematic polling centres and in areas where incidents occurred in the previous elections. Stating that people can come to the polling station and vote without any fear, he said that check posts have been established throughout the district and surveillance has been done.
