‘Officials told to expedite removal of hyacinth from Upputeru drain

West Godavari District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani has directed the officials concerned to expedite the removal of hyacinth from the Upputeru.
The Collector, SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi, MLAs Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju and  Kamineni Srinivas inspected the removal of hyacinth creepers from the Upputeru drain. The Collector said that the water of Kolleru Lake merges the sea only through Upputeru.
She said that in the confluence area at Kolleru-Uppateru, water flow is inhibited by the hyacinth creeper. The Collector directed the officials to complete the work of removing the hyacinth from the lower part of the Uppeteru Railway Bridge and R&B Bridge as soon as possible.
The flood water is entering the agriculture fields at Siddapuram and Chinnamillipadu villages in the border zone of Akiveedu as the water level in Kolleru Lake is gradually increasing and the officials alerted the people living in the low-lying areas at Upputeru villages.
The MLAs told the officials that the hyacinth creepers should be removed from the Upputeru drain on war footing so that the flood water flows freely. The removal of hyacinth creeper from the Upputeru drain has been carried out for the last week, the officials told the MLAs.
Collector Nagarani appreciated Irrigation Assistant Engineer Venkateswara Rao for swift action for the removal of the hyacinth creeper from the Upputeru drain. Joint Collector T Rahul Kumar Reddy, district Irrigation Officer P Subramanyeswara Rao and AE Venkateswara Rao were among those who accompanied them.
Later, Collector Nagarani conducted a surprise inspection of the medical camp at Chinamallipadu village. She directed the doctors to shift pregnant women and postnatal women to the government hospital if needed.   She directed the doctors to keep ready medicines, especially anti-venom injections as snake bites might take place in the flood-hit areas.  DMHO Dr D Maheswara Rao and Pedakapavara Medical Officer Dr.Rajasekhar were accompanied by the Collector.
