Officials told to prevent paddy movement from neighbouring States

District Collector C Narayana Reddy has ordered a meticulous procurement of 100 per cent of the paddy harvested in Vanakalam (kharif) season, leaving no room for errors. On Friday, he conducted a video conference from the Collectorate with the mandal-level teams to discuss the paddy procurement process.
He instructed police officials to set up stringent surveillance mechanism to prevent paddy from other states arriving at procurement centres in the district. He emphasised the need for strict checks at checkpoints. Special stickers would be issued for vehicles transporting paddy within the district, and he reiterated that no paddy from other states should be purchased at the local procurement centres.
The Collector highlighted several factors contributing to an expected increase in paddy production this year, such as the release of water from the Nagarjunasagar project, the presence of high capacity rice mills in Nalgonda district, and the addition of 20,000 acres of rice cultivation compared to the previous year. Additionally, the government’s announcement of a Rs 500 bonus for fine varieties of paddy is likely to encourage farmers to bring more quantities of paddy to procurement centres.
The mills are also expected to keep fine and coarse paddy milling separated, and utmost care must be taken to avoid any mix-up. Every procurement centre should be equipped with two moisture-measuring machines, four weighing machines, 40 labourers, 30 tarpaulins, drinking water, and seating arrangements for farmers.
Any negligence in this regard will result in strict action. All paddy procured should be dispatched to mills on the same day, and measures should be taken to avoid truck shortages. Arrangements for additional trucks should be ready if necessary.
District Superintendent of Police Sharath Chandra Pawar announced that check-posts have been established at Wadapally and Vijayapuri to regulate paddy from other states, and police personnel will be assigned in shifts to maintain vigilance during the procurement process.
Additional Collector J. Srinivas, Miryalaguda Sub-Collector Narayana Amit, Devarkonda and others were present at the meeting.
