District Collector K Vetri Selvi has issued a stern warning to officials, stating that any report of diarrhoea cases in the district due to unhygienic conditions and contaminated water will result in strict action against the responsible departments.
In a video conference held on Tuesday with municipal commissioners and mandal-level officials, the Collector reviewed sanitation, drinking water, and other pressing issues in the district. She emphasized the need for heightened attention to sanitation, drinking water, and mosquito eradication during the monsoon season.
Collector Vetri Selvi directed officials to ensure full-scale sanitation programs in both rural and urban areas as the rains decrease. She stressed the importance of preventing any diarrhoea cases by maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
She instructed municipal commissioners, panchayat secretaries, and EO PRDs to supervise sanitation work from 6 AM onwards. Surprise inspections will be conducted, and any negligence leading to diarrhoea cases will result in severe repercussions for the officials involved.
All overhead drinking water tanks in rural and urban areas must be cleaned, and water should only be supplied post-chlorination. Drainages should be cleared daily to prevent sewage accumulation, and measures such as spreading Malathion and Abate for mosquito eradication should be implemented. The Collector also ordered fogging to combat mosquitoes in every town and village and instructed daily road cleaning to prevent rainwater stagnation.
Panchayat Secretaries are required to reside in their respective work locations. The Collector also urged officials to respond promptly to sanitation, contaminated drinking water, and mosquito-related issues reported in daily newspapers and to send a rejoinder on the actions taken to the journalists.
ZP CEO T. Srinivas Viswanath, RWS SE Satyanarayana, Municipal Commissioner S. Venkata Krishna, and other officials attended the meeting.
