ONDC should play vital role to promote e-commerce: DC

District Collector K Vetri Selvi emphasized that the ‘Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC)’ should play a vital role in promoting e-commerce and directed the officials concerned to formulate a special action plan to promote local products through the ONDC.
The Collector held a meeting with the district industries and exports promotion committee officials here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector directed the authorities concerned to implement special activities to make available Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) services to promote local products and producers.
Collector Vetri Selvi said that agriculture, horticulture, DRDA, ITDA and other departments should identify those who are eligible to put a product for sale on the ONDC platform at mandal wise in the district.
“The DDs and LDMs of the Horticultural Department should play a major role in setting up food processing units under MSME and bringing those products to the ONDC platform. The women of self-help groups in the district make various pickles for their economic empowerment. The DRDA and the MEPMA officials should take steps to sell jute bags and other dishes through this system,” the Collector told the officials.
The ONDC is a platform for small traders and producers in remote areas, she said, adding that the ONDC will play a key role in bringing this policy closer to consumers.
The Collector highlighted that Eluru district has earned a reputation for the carpet sector, and directed the officials to take steps to provide them with a special brand and bring them in the ONDC network. Steps should also be taken to market 10 types of tribal products along with products made with amazing skill and creation from bamboo in the ITDA area of the district, Vetri Selvi told the officials.
The Collector directed the officials to make a special video to promote Open Network for Digital Commerce (My Stores) products, adding that steps should be taken towards creating the activity related to this within 10 days.
“Out of 110 industries in the district, 70 industries have so far set up child care and feeding rooms,” the Collector said.  Vetri Selvi ordered the officials concerned to complete the inspections of industries regarding safety measures by the end of November and submitted a report to her.
“Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Guarantee Programme (PMEGP), steps should be taken to set up industries without any hindrance. A meeting should be held with the industrialists who applied under PMEGP and if there are any problems, they should bring them to the attention of the bankers and resolve them,” the Collector told the officials.
Industries GM Pratap, Irrigation SE CH Dev Prakash, DRDA PD R Vijayraju and LDM F Neeladri were among host officials who attended the meeting.
