The Andhra Pradesh government will introduce a ‘one teacher per class’ policy in all government schools starting next year, announced Minister for IT, Electronics, and HRD, Nara Lokesh. The announcement was made during a surprise inspection of the Municipal Corporation Elementary School in Etcherla, Srikakulam.
Minister Lokesh interacted with students from grades 1 to 5, asking them about their favourite subjects, lunch experiences, and their parents’ occupations. The students expressed their fondness for subjects like English and Environmental Studies (EVS). Lokesh appreciated their handwriting and praised the efforts of the teachers in improving their writing skills.
“The dedication of our teachers is reflected in the success of our students,” said Lokesh, indicating that the new policy could be expanded across the state.
He also suggested including local food in the mid-day meal scheme, considering students’ preference for familiar tastes.
During his visit, the minister conducted a quick IQ test, asking students to name objects in English. Impressed by their responses, he motivated them to study hard and make their parents, especially their mothers, proud.
Lokesh also met with teachers and the Mandal Education Officer (MEO), stressing the need for financial support to address infrastructure issues. He assured them that the necessary facilities would be provided before rolling out equal development across all schools. He expressed satisfaction with the school’s attendance and academic performance while directing the MEO to resolve pending teacher salary issues.
The minister aims to make Andhra Pradesh’s schools a model for the nation in the next five years, promising systematic reforms to avoid past mistakes. He also highlighted the shortage of subject-specific school assistants and assured that necessary changes would be made.
MLA Gondu Shankar and MLC Vepada Chiranjeevi accompanied the minister during the visit. This move is part of the government’s larger effort to revitalise the education sector.
