Senior Telangana Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao described former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as a people’s leader.

He said that Oommen Chandy was a down-to-earth leader who worked for the poor wholeheartedly. He said that it is not possible for the Congress to fill the gap created by Oommen Chandy’s demise.

Addressing a condolence meeting in memory of Oommen Chandy at the Indira Bhavan on Saturday, VH said that Chandy used to leave only after listening to the complaints of the public wherever he went in Kerala when he was the Chief Minister.

VH said that at present Chief Ministers and leaders are confining themselves to speeches and not taking care of the public’s problems. The younger generation must take Oommen Chandy as their model and serve the public, he added.

VH said that the current generation of leaders has commercialised politics while Oommen Chandy was a leader who engaged in politics without any desire to make money. He left his mark on the Congress with his simplicity and committed politics, VH added.

Congress leaders M. Kodanda Reddy, Rammohan, Bollu Kishan, Premlal, Mettu Sai Kumar, Laxman Yadav, Shambula Srikanth Goud, Afsar Yousuf, A. Avinash, K. Srnivas, R. Narender, Father Daniel and others attended the programme.
