Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, K Pawan Kalyan, has emphasised the priority of providing basic amenities, including drinking water, to villages.
In a statement on Saturday, Pawan Kalyan expressed satisfaction with the portfolios allocated to him, stating they align with the Jana Sena Party’s ideologies. He feels honoured to manage these responsibilities.
Pawan Kalyan shared insights from his extensive visits across the state, particularly focusing on the challenges faced by rural communities. He highlighted the critical lack of basic amenities in these areas, which he has studied in depth.
Recounting a visit to Kuridi village, he described the severe water scarcity villagers endure. “I was shown the polluted well water the villagers relied on. It was heartbreaking to see women travelling several kilometres just to fetch a small amount of clean water,” he said.
Pawan Kalyan noted the struggles faced by village sarpanches due to the state government diverting panchayat funds, hindering rural development. He stressed the importance of utilizing funds from the MGNREGA scheme and providing drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
He also advocated for environmental protection alongside industrial development. “It’s imperative to preserve our forest wealth while pursuing industrial growth,” he remarked.
Pawan Kalyan praised the allocation of the Civil Supplies portfolio to JSP leader Nadendla Manohar and Tourism and Cinematography to Kandula Durgesh. He assured improvements in the public distribution system, including better methods for purchasing agricultural produce and timely payments to farmers.
He highlighted the potential of tourism projects to create abundant employment opportunities, with a particular focus on developing spiritual tourism. Pawan Kalyan expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for the vital portfolio allocations.
