As the FedEx cyber fraud cases are increasing, on Wednesday the FedEx has clarified that it does not seek personal information through unsolicited phone calls, mail, or email for goods being shipped or held, unless requested or initiated by customers. So people should not respond to fake calls and messages and do not get into the fraud trap.
On Wednesday the FedEx released a media statement where it mentioned, “If any individual receives any suspicious phone calls or messages, they are advised not to provide their personal information. Instead, they should immediately contact the local law enforcement authorities within the vicinity or report to the cybercrime department.”
FedEx parcel scam cases in the State have increased from 64 in 2022 to 645 in 2023, whereas more than 90 cases have been reported in the year of 2024.
According to the Telangana State police annual report 2023, the top five cyber crimes in the year 2023 were Business Investment Fraud, FedEx Courier Fraud, Advertisement Portal Fraud, Cards Fraud and Loan Fraud.
TSRTC MD VC Sajjanar said that around 90 per cent of total frauds of drug parcel cases are occurring in India.
The cyber police advised that to tackle this, self-awareness is the only way to check these scams and do not respond to phone calls of unknown persons. Contact the police on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in to report any cyber crime.
