Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that people who are trying to portray the history of Telangana wrongly will be given a befitting lesson by the people.
He reminded the people of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s statement that if Telangana was not liberated and remained independent under the Nizam it would be a cancer on mother India’s stomach.
Amit Shah was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of the 75th Hyderabad Liberation Day Celebrations at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.
He commenced the programme by hoisting the national flag at the ceremony held under the auspices of the Union Ministry of Culture.
He saluted and paid tributes to the heroes who sacrificed their lives in the struggle to liberate Hyderabad state which includes modern-day Telangana, the Marathwada region of Maharashtra and many districts of Karnataka.
Speaking on the occasion, Amit said that if it was not for Sardar Patel, Telangana would not have been liberated so soon. He said that he was prepared for a police action to unite the country.
He said that after the Indian military started ‘Operation Polo,’ without shedding a drop of blood, Nizam prostrated before Bharat’s might. He said that the operation was carried out under the leadership of KM Munshi as per the orders of Patel.
Amit reminded that many organizations like the Arya Samaj and the Hindu Mahasabha worked during the Telangana independence movement.
For 75 years, no government in the country has tried to tell our youth about Telangana’s freedom struggle and give this event in history the regard it deserved. It was Prime Minister Modi who decided to officially organize this ceremony to inspire the future generations of Telangana.
The aim of the programmes held under the auspices of the Union Ministry of Culture is to remember the struggle of our elders and build the state they dreamed of. He said that the development of the state is possible only through the spirit of the freedom struggle.
Amit congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his birthday. He reminded people that the Prime Minister’s contribution is there for everybody to see and that it resulted in the country becoming the fifth largest economy in the world, and through G20, India’s culture and traditions have once again been conveyed to the world. He said that today the whole world is praising the progress India is making.
He said that 1,500 people were fired upon on like in Jallianwala Bagh for hoisting the Indian flag in Parakala, in which many were killed and injured. In a similar manner, people were attacked in Parbhani in Maharashtra and Bidar in Karnataka.
Amit said that Patel resolved on August 10, 1948, to get rid of the tyrannical Nizam and completed the mission by September 17.
He also virtually inaugurated the residential complexes of Sashastra Seemabal officers. Celebrating the Telangana Liberation Day, Amit also virtually inaugurated the exhibition organised at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Bollaram reflecting the culture of Telangana.
He also unveiled a special postal cover commemorating the luminaries of the Telangana independence struggle, Shoebullah Khan and Ramji Gond.
Earlier, the Union Minister of Tourism, G. Kishan Reddy, said that the Congress tried to destroy the history of the struggle for Telangana’s freedom. The people of Telangana will not forgive this. He said that the BRS is also trying to erase history from public memory.
Sardar Patel ordered military action as the people of Telangana could not breathe the air of freedom even after the country gained Independence. Kishan asked how the independence of Telangana, which was achieved by the sacrifices and unremitting struggle of the people could be termed anything but a liberation.
He asked how Telangana society would ever forget the acts of violence against women, sexual assaults and the act of parading naked women during Bathukamma festivities by Razakars, the militia of the Nizam.
He said that every village in Telangana has a history of fighting the Razakars and for 75 years they tried to suppress history. He said that by organizing these functions, the Centre is trying to make our history known to all people.
A parade of artistes reflecting the culture of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana was held along with a march past of Central armed forces. A short video on the liberation of Hyderabad was also released.
