The student of Hyderabad Public School established nine libraries
Impressed with the philanthropic activities by Akarshana Sathish, a seventh-grade student of Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet donated for establishing nine libraries by gathering books from her neighbours, classmates and relatives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated her on Wednesday, during the 105th episode of Mann Ki Baat, and extended Republic Day celebrations invitation to her via PMO office.
Akarshana began collecting books in 2021 when she and her parents visited the MNJ Cancer Children’s Hospital to provide food. She met youngsters asking for colouring books and since then she began collecting used books and spreading the word to everyone in her neighbourhood.
She gathered over 6,498 used books and established nine libraries, the first of which is at MNJ Cancer Children Hospital, the second at the Sanath Nagar Police Station, the third at the Gayathri Nagar Association, Borabanda, the fourth at the Juvenile and Observation Home for Girls Hyderabad, the fifth with the Coimbatore City Police Street libraries, and the sixth at Chennai Boys Club in the Nolambur Police Station, the seventh library at Government High School, Sanath Nagar, Eighth Library was at Bharosa Centre at Siddipet maintained by Women Safety wing of Telangana State Police.
Recently, she established the ninth public library at Kulithurai Village in Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu. She is confident that these books will inspire people and children to read more books.
Due to her philanthropic activities, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry extended an invitation to her and her parents along with the tickets and hotel stay to attend the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi on January 26.
Akarshana said, “I can’t express it in words to get this opportunity to witness the Republic Day celebrations. It was such a proud feeling that I got an invitation to the celebrations. I would love to thank all the Hyderabadi locals for supporting me and because of them, I have established nine libraries till now. I will have an opportunity to interact with successful people there.
