In a virtual ceremony from Rajkot, Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the microbiology food testing laboratory, located at the Regional Public Health Laboratory in Visakhapatnam, to the nation on Sunday. The laboratory, inaugurated as part of the Vikasit Bharat programme, is equipped with advanced facilities including a microbiology lab, aimed at enhancing food safety and public health measures in the region.
During the virtual inauguration, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the ongoing initiatives under the Viksit Bharat programme. He highlighted recent developments, including the establishment of IIM in Visakhapatnam, AIIMS in Kadapa and Mangalagiri, and the Andhra Pradesh microbiology food testing laboratory. The ceremony was attended by District Collector Dr. A. Mallikharjuna, who initiated the proceedings by lighting the ceremonial lamp and activating the facility remotely.
The microbiology food testing laboratory, costing Rs 4.77 crore, boasts a state-of-the-art microbiology lab at the Regional Public Health Laboratory in Visakha. The Prime Minister commended the lab, likening it to the ‘heart of the State’, emphasising its pivotal role in conducting a multitude of tests for food and water samples, especially in cases of diarrhea and related health issues. The lab’s quick establishment was attributed to the collaborative efforts of the State and Central governments.
The District Collector thanked the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister for their support in establishing the microbiology lab in Visakhapatnam. He announced plans to recruit 80 staff members soon to further enhance the lab’s capabilities. The establishment of the Andhra Pradesh State Food Laboratory reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of the citizens.
The virtual inauguration ceremony saw the participation of several dignitaries, including Director of IPM Purnachandra Rao, N. H. MD Ganapathy Rao, APMSIDC EE D. Achchennaidu, Food Control Officer Nanda, DMHO Dr. P. Jagadeswara Rao, along with other officials, staff and students.
