Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 11 railway stations in the Vijayawada division under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme through a video link on 06 August 2023. The event was held at Eluru Railway Station, where Governor of Andhra Pradesh S Abdul Nazeer was the guest of honour.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a major initiative of the Ministry of Railways to modernise railway stations across India. The scheme aims to improve passenger amenities and facilities at railway stations, making them more comfortable and convenient for passengers. The redevelopment of 11 stations in the Vijayawada division under the scheme will cost around Rs 269.9 crore.
The stations that will be redeveloped under the scheme are:
Eluru, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali, Krishnalanka, Nandigama, Bethapalle, Chirala, Proddutur, Ongole, Nellore
The redevelopment work will include improvements to the façade, circulating area, parking facilities, toilets, waiting rooms, and other amenities at the stations.
The stations will also be equipped with modern facilities such as escalators, elevators, and Wi-Fi.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Modi said that the redevelopment of railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme will be a major boost to the development of the country. He said that the scheme will improve the passenger experience and make railway travel more comfortable and convenient. He also said that the scheme will generate employment opportunities and boost the economy of the country.
Governor S Abdul Nazeer said that the redevelopment of railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme will be a major transformation in the landscape of Indian Railways.

DRM Narendra A Patil said that the Vijayawada division is proud to host the foundation stone laying ceremony for the redevelopment of 11 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He said that the scheme will be a game-changer for the division and will improve the passenger experience significantly. He also said that the scheme will boost the revenue generation of the stations.
