In a significant move towards enhancing the infrastructure of railway stations and bridges, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 12 stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and the construction of four Road Over Bridges over the Waltair Division on February 26, 2024.
During a press briefing held on Saturday, Divisional Railway Manager Saurabh Prasad outlined the comprehensive redevelopment plans, emphasizing the integration of modern amenities and local heritage at the designated stations. The redevelopment initiative encompasses the construction of new station buildings, the incorporation of world-class amenities, the installation of 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridges, and the provision of second entry points to the stations.
The stations identified for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Stations initiative span across Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, including Simhachalam, Araku, Parvatipuram, Bobbili, Kothavalasa, Chipurupalle, Srikakulam Road, Naupada, Paralakhemundi, Jeypore, Rayagada, and Koraput. Additionally, the construction of four Road Over Bridges in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts of Andhra Pradesh aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate trade and commerce in the region. The ambitious redevelopment project entails an expenditure of Rs 443.47 crore for the 12 stations and Rs 218.13 crore for the construction of the four Road Over Bridges.
Highlighting the broader vision behind the initiative, DRM Saurabh Prasad underscored the commitment to provide international-level infrastructure at railway stations across the country to ensure modern connectivity. Prime Minister Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 554 stations under the Amrit Bharat Scheme and over 1500 Road Over Bridges and Underpasses via video conferencing from New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development.
Enumerating the benefits of the Amrit station redevelopment, DRM Prasad emphasized improved accessibility, wider Foot Over Bridges, enhanced waiting areas, modern toilet facilities, and provisions for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, initiatives such as ‘One Station One Product’ and the integration of stations with surrounding city areas aim to foster local economic growth and promote sustainable development. Furthermore, the construction of railways over bridges and underpasses is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance safety, and optimize transportation efficiency, thereby benefiting both commuters and road users.
