Stating that the people of the State have concerns about the burning of files related to Polavaram left canal land acquisitions, Minister for Tourism and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh said that the government has taken the matter seriously and an inquiry will be conducted.
The Minister visited the Polavaram Authority Office near here on Sunday and also inspected the half-burnt files and other documents at the dumping yard.
Speaking to the media later, Minister Kandula Durgesh said that a comprehensive inquiry would be conducted to bring the facts to light regarding the burning of Polavaram project files. The coalition government is committed to providing transparent governance, but
some officials are indulging in corrupt practices, he regretted.
“The government is taking the burning of files related to the Polavaram project land acquisition very seriously. The Joint Collector has been directed to conduct a comprehensive departmental inquiry. Stringent action will be taken against those involved in this crime,” the Minister noted.
He stated that if there are files to be disposed of, the officials concerned should obtain permission from higher authorities to do so. While disposing of or burning old files, the government-prescribed guidelines must be followed by the officials, the Minister warned.
Responding to the burning of files related to the Polavaram Left Canal land acquisition, Joint Collector S. China Ramudu stated that a comprehensive inquiry is being conducted. If any officer is found guilty, strict action will be taken against them, he added.
The Joint Collector clarified that old files are disposed of following the government’s guidelines. SP D. Narasimha Kishore said that the officials concerned had lodged a complaint about the burning of files, and the police have begun an investigation.
