The Nellore police have arrested the accused in the rape and murder of a 39-year-old mentally challenged woman after four weeks. The accused was identified as Maipadu Penchullaya, a compounder from Penuballi in Buchireddypalem mandal in Nellore district. The accused used to visit the house of the victim regularly for her mother’s medication. He tricked the victim and took her to an isolated place. After committing rape, he strangled her. Later, the body was buried.
According to the police, the victim lived in Penuballi and is mentally challenged. She was staying away from her husband with her parents. As her mother Adilakshmamma was suffering from kidney disease, the victim’s younger sister used to visit her once a week and looked after their well-being.
Maipadu Penchullaya from the same area, who worked as a compounder in Jonnawada PHC, used to visit the victim’s home for her mother’s treatment. Penchullaya, who tricked Pratima, on June 26 took her to a nearby isolated place, brutally raped and murdered her.
Later, he dug a pit in front of the PHC and buried the body. Locals informed the police after a foul smell came from the area. Meanwhile, the victim;s sister complained to the police that her elder sister went missing.
The police produced Penchullaya before the court.
