In a major crackdown on wildlife poaching and illegal meat trade, the police on Monday arrested a gang allegedly selling venison and moose meat in the city. The police took the suspects into custody and seized a substantial quantity of meat from their possession, the police said.
The investigation by the police revealed that the gangsters were selling venison and moose meat under the guise of a legitimate business. Acting on a tip-off, the Special Task Force (STF) police initiated inspections in the Gagan Pahad area, falling under the jurisdiction of Shamshabad Airport Police Station.
A team of officers, led by Circle Inspector Satyanarayana Goud, conducted a raid on Monday morning on persons allegedly engaged in poaching wildlife and selling venison and moose meat. The raids led to the apprehension of three individuals, identified as Venkatesh, Karunakar, and Srinu. The suspects were found in possession of 16 kilograms of venison and moose meat. Two two-wheelers too were seized from them.
The seized meat was allegedly being sold to unsuspecting customers, potentially putting their health at risk due to the unregulated nature of the trade. The authorities handed over the confiscated meat and vehicles to the airport police for further investigation.
Among the arrested individuals, Venkatesh and Karunakar hail from Saraswathipuram and Lemuru villages of Kandukuru mandal in Rangareddy district, while the third suspect, Srinu, is a resident of Yaragandlapalli village in Marriguda mandal of Nalgonda district.
The police filed a case against the three accused.
