The police arrested a burglar in a major heist and recovered Rs 52.60 lakh near Sukanya theatre here on Wednesday.
Superintendent of police Malika Garg told the media here on Wednesday that the burglary took place here on December 31, 2022 and Ongole one town police registered the case on January 2, 2023, U/S 454,380, IPC.
She said that Varikuntla Venkata Krishnaiah lives here and he is working as a teacher in ZPH school and his wife worked as a lecturer in government degree college and took VRS in 2018. The couple kept Rs 52.70 lakh in their house. On December 26, 2022, she went to Markapuram to see her brother. On December 31, the complainant Krishnaiah went to school at 8:30 am and returned at 5 pm. He found the doors of the backside of the house broke open and found Rs 52.70 lakh, which was preserved in the cupboard, was missing and he lodged a complaint on January 1, 2023 at 00:30 hrs.
The police arrested the accused Vottu Kranthi Kiran at Jagadewari theatre in Markapuram on January 4 and recovered Rs 52,60,000. The SP said that the accused is the son of the younger brother of the complainant, Venkata Krishnaiah’s wife. The accused Kranthi Kiran did some contract work in the Irrigation, Panchayat Raj and R&B departments and spent Rs 2.70 crore. He did not get money from the government for the contract works he had done resulting in him being debt-ridden. His aunt used to say to his brother that they had Rs 52.70 lakh money and were planning to purchase a house site and the accused heard it. When the couple were not yet home, he committed the burglary in his own aunt’s house.
