OU student leaders were arrested early on Friday to prevent protests on the Telangana State Public Service Commission issue at the Osmania University.

The OU turned into a hot spot as some others held a protest demanding that KCR should react on the TSPSC leak. Nearly 40 students were arrested by the Osmania Police. One group of students were let off in the evening.

Sharath Naik, the State President of Girijana Shakthi said, “42 students were arrested while they were going for the protest. I was detained at 5 am. We have always demanded KCR’s reaction on the TSPSC leak as it has a bearing on the students’ future and that of their families. The students must have confidence in the upcoming TSPSC reforms. We want the Chairman and other officials to be removed so that the investigation becomes transparent.”

“Every university is a platform to speak up and it cannot be used for political protests. There were times when BRS leaders used to visit us and we attended their meetings. So why stop opposition leaders from interacting with students,” student leaders said.

On Friday police blocked the entrance to Arts College to stop protests by student organisations. All roads from Tarnaka, Vidya Nagar and Jamai Osmania were closed. The police claimed that OU had refused permission to hold meetings at Arts College. OU Vice-Chancellor Prof. D. Ravinder told ‘The Pioneer,’ “We have refused permission to political parties to stage protests in front of Arts College.

We were never approached by any student leaders seeking permission to invite politicians and hold protests in front of Arts College.”
