Polling in a few places was delayed in the State as people in rural areas threatened to boycott the polls. The officials, however, swung into action, and dissuaded the voters not to boycott the polls.
Lachagudem under Yellandu mandal in Kothagudem district announced their decision to boycott the polls. They took the decision to register their protest over the alleged failure the government to address their grievances.
Deputy Collector Kasaiah visited the village and persuaded the people to withdraw the boycott of polls. On the directions of Bhadradri Kothagudem District Collector Priyanka Ala, the officials visited the Regalla village also and ensured that they participated in the polls. Ā
Similarly at Rayamadaram village of Enkoor mandal in Khammam district the villagers boycotted polls demanding that the authorities address their grievances.
They demanded construction of a bridge across NSP canal at the village. Leaders of political parties failed to address their problem for the past 40 years, they complained.
The official, however, succeeded in dissuading the villagers to withdraw the boycott threat. Meanwhile, People in a tribal hamlet in Ā Kollapur constituency on Monday boycotted the polls as power supply was shut down to their habitat for the past 72 hours.
They protested in the village and threatened to boycott the polls till power supply is restored. As the polling booth in the village wore a deserted look, the election authorities had no work.
In Nagarkurnool district, Kollapurmandal, the Chenchu Habitat of Amaragiri did not get power for the past three days forcing the villagers to demonstrate.
They lamented that no politician or bureaucrat paid attention to their problems which included lack of road infrastructure, drinking water. They also demanded ration cards.
Because the tribal hamlet is located in the Nallamala forest region, snakes are often found straying into their habitats. Lack of power supply makes them susceptible to snake bites, they said.
The electricity department officials are keen to collect power bills but not ready to provide power supply, they said in a rather angry tone.
