Ponnam directs officials to complete land acquisition for completing Gauravelli project

Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar has directed the Revenue and Irrigation officials to conduct requisite survey to acquire the land to complete the Gauravelli project, which is 95 per cent complete in all respects.
To complete the remainder of the 5 per cent of the project, a total of 132 acres is needed in Akkannapeta, 235 in Husnabadmandal and 304 acres in Kohedamandal – to complete the excavation of the distributary canals.
Addressing the officials at Integrated Collectorate offices complex here on Saturday along with Collector M Manu Chaudhary, the minister asked the officials to give priority to these works. He said that he would hold the meeting again on July 11.
If the 5 per cent of the project is not completed as early as possible, it would pose problems to the dam structure during the rainy season, he said, asking the authorities to seek permission of the National Green Tribunal for according permission to complete the balance of the project work.
In Husnabad Assembly constituency, there are 500 minor irrigation tanks coming under the jurisdiction of the irrigation department. He wanted the works to excavate 47 km long right canal of the project and 14-km-long left canal should be divided under three categories for execution. The canals should fill the irrigation tanks. If the water is released into the main canal, the farmers would cooperate with the authorities reposing faith in the government, he said. He directed district fisheries officer Mallesam to take steps to improve marine wealth to export it other areas from Husnabad.
Additional Collector  Srinivasa Reddy, Irrigation ENC Sankar, Husnabad RDO Rammurthy, Siddipet RDO Sadanandam, Husnabad irrigation division EE Ramulu and other engineering officials and tahsildars of various mandals were present at the meeting.
