Ponnam: Govt spends Rs 350 cr on Mahalakshmi scheme every month

Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar said that the government is forwarding Rs 350 crore every month to the TSRTC for the Mahalakshmi scheme. As a result, TSRTC has no operating loss. On Friday, the Minister laid the foundation stone for bus stand modernisation in Husnabad town of Siddipet district.
Prabhakar said, “It was 50 per cent occupancy in buses but after the scheme initiative the percentage has increased to 100 per cent. Women are travelling free of cost. After the Mahalakshmi scheme every bus stand is filling up with passengers. In the future, more buses will ply on the roads and recruitment also will be done.”
“The previously announced bond payments will begin before the election code comes into force and for bonds, a government order will be released. A meeting will be held with RTC MD and Principal Secretary on Saturday,” the Minister said.
The Mahalakshmi scheme was launched on December 9, on the second day after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took oath. An official release stated, “Since the Mahalakshmi scheme was launched on December 9 to March 6, a total of 24.05 crore women passengers have travelled with zero fare. At an average, 26.33 lakh women have travelled per day in December. An average of 28.10 lakh in January and the number has increased to 30.56 lakh in February.”
