Ponnam stresses need to increase green cover

Minister for Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar has appealed to the people to make the Vana Mahotsvam and cleanliness drive programmes launched by the state government a grand success.
He was taking part in a series of developmental programmes in Husnabad on Sunday.
Addressing a gathering, he called upon people to join the cleanliness drive. He stressed to create awareness among people on hygiene and cleanliness. He suggested prevention of drinking water contamination, besides accumulation of sewer.
He also underlined the need for maintaining personal hygiene and educate the people on adverse impact of plastics. Laying emphasis on implementing sanitation programmes in schools and Anganwadi centers.
Besides the elected people’s representatives, youth, voluntary organisations, local peoples should take part in the exercise. Saplings should be planted on vacant sites, he said calling for prevention of depletion of forest cover. Cutting down of trees would have adverse impact on environment, which is essential for sustenance of human race.
