Introducing playback singer Suryansh, an artist whose mesmerising voice has woven melodies that resonate with the soul. Hailing from Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, Suryansh has carved a niche in the realm of music with his unique blend of talent and passion. With a repertoire spanning across various genres, the singer has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the world of music, especially in South India and Bollywood.
He has been a music composer, arranger, producer, and playback singer in his career thus far. Well known for his work in films like Vikram Vedha, Ponniyin Selvan, Master, Dil Bechara, and Mimi, among others, the singer’s work has been widely shared by the legendary AR Rahman, with whom he collaborated on a few projects.
Join me in exploring the enchanting world of Suryansh as he speaks about his latest release, Baaja from Amar Singh Chamkila, working in south films, especially Ponniyan Selvan, and more.
Beginning with his journey for Ponniyin Selvan, Suryansh finds working on the music for the film an extraordinary experience. He shared, “Being part of the creative process alongside legends like AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam was nothing short of exhilarating. The journey began in 2019, and from the outset, it was evident that we were embarking on something truly special. Witnessing the synergy between AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam was awe-inspiring. Their collaborative spirit was palpable as they delved into the intricacies of the film and its music, exchanging ideas and insights with a passion that was infectious.”
As a music programmer and vocal arranger, his role was to assist in bringing their vision to life. Whether it was fine-tuning melodies, orchestrating arrangements, or ensuring the perfect vocal harmonies, for him, every step of the process was infused with creativity and dedication.
Taking us back to the most memorable moments he had from the sets of the PS franchise, he shared, “One of the most memorable moments from working on Ponniyin Selvan was walking into the recording room for the first time and witnessing AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam engrossed in discussion. Their shared enthusiasm and commitment to perfection set the tone for the entire project, inspiring everyone involved to strive for excellence.”
As Ponniyin Selvan continues to captivate audiences with its enchanting melodies and compelling storytelling, he feels privileged to have played a small part in bringing this cinematic masterpiece to life.
He next spoke about his latest release, Baaja, which he considers his most special project so far, which is also again with AR Rahman, and he explained, “I received a call from Rahman sir’s team to sing a
song, which turned out to be Baaja. I recorded the Baj Baaja Baaja parts in Mumbai in Rahman sir’s studio, and the intro part where I sing Ain Ishq Da Pehla Akkhar was recorded in Rahman sir’s Chennai studio.”
This song is special for him because it marks his Bollywood debut as a singer. “It is a song for a film directed by Imtiaz Ali, with music by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil. Working with this trio is a dream come true. I believe Amar Singh Chamkila stands out now that Baaja is out. Since the first time I heard the music of Rockstar, I dreamed of working with Rahman sir, Irshad sir, and Imtiaz sir, and seeing that dream come true for such a huge film is incredible,” he added.
Giving a gist of how his musical journey happened, the young composer and singer explained, “I’ve been singing since I was four and had the opportunity to sing with Late. Ravindra Jain. I gained recognition with an impromptu rendition of Billo Rani in 2011 with Richa Sharma. Around this time, I started doing YouTube covers and learned music production. I released my first single, “Chal Phir Wahin,” last year, which was well-received.”
Having worked with legendary AR Rahman on so many hit projects, we asked him what’s the biggest takeaway he learned from him, and his crisp answer was: “His passion for music, dedication to delivering the best, and fearlessness in trying new things.”
Furthermore, the singer, who loves the richness of the music in South films, has some interesting Tamil music coming up soon, whose details he wishes to reveal in a little while.

He also has a few singles coming up, including one with Ghodey Pe Sawaar singer Sireesha Bhagavatula.
