pose serious electrocution risks Overflowing manholes, eroded roads in Anand Nagar

Must read

The city’s Decent Street of Anand Nagar, down to the Banjara Hills Road No. 1, has been neglected for weeks. A manhole overflowing for many weeks is unattended, causing stinking sewage to flood the main road, which also connects three lanes. Overgrown trees with branches touching live electric wires poses risk of electrocution, especially during the monsoon season.
Recent heavy rains have made the situation worse. This overflowing blocked manholes and has made the main road flow with stinking water, forcing pedestrians to walk through sewage water splashing through them.
The overgrown branches hanging near live wires are creating a fear of electrocution, especially for those walking along the road’s edge, where the branches hang within the reach of the hand. This is a significant concern, especially with three schools nearby, putting children at risk. Despite these dangers, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) only cleans the roads, ignoring these problems as minor issues.
When asked, a resident of AnandNagar, Venkat, explained that the junction often floods during rains, making the road dangerous for motorists and pedestrians. He noted that GHMC responds only after complaints are made, and even then, with a few days of delay.
Venkat also pointed out that while the trees provide shade in summer, they become dangerous in the monsoon, as the branches may fall on people along with risk of electric shocks when accidentally touched, especially when overgrown. He urged the GHMC to address such risks before accidents occur, citing a recent incident in Kadapa where two kids crossing a road on a bicycle got electrocuted, leaving one dead on Wednesday.
