Telangana has performed exceptionally well in the National Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index released on Monday by NITI Aayog.
The percentage of total population who are multi-dimensionally poor in the state got reduced to 5.88% from 13.18% in 2015-16.
As many as 13.5 crore individuals in India moved out of multi-dimensional poverty between 2015-16 and 2019-21, according to a NITI Aayog report. The report ‘National Multi-dimensional Poverty Index: A Progress Review 2023’ was released on Monday by the government think tank’s Vice-Chairman Suman Bery, in the presence of members of NITI Aayog VK Paul and Arvind Virmani and BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog.
NITI Aayog has declared that Telangana is the best in poverty alleviation. The details of the National Family Health Survey, which recorded various dimensions of poverty across the country, have been released. According to the NFHS survey data, the personal poverty rate in the state was recorded at 13.18% in 2015-16 and it has come down to 5.88% during 2019-21. Bihar State ranks first in poverty alleviation with 33.76% while Pondicherry ranks last with 0.85%. The states of AP and Telangana stood at the 20th and 21st positions respectively.
