Telangana has recorded a new peak in power consumption by consuming 15,497 MW, including power from rooftop solar panels. This is the highest power consumption recorded in TS history.

The highest ever demand of 15,497 MW was recorded at 11:01 am on Thursday. Officials revealed that consumption has been of the order of 15,000 MW since the beginning of this month. Telangana is second in electricity consumption in south India.

It is known that on March 14 at 10:03 am, 15,062 MW of electricity was consumed by Transco and Genco, according to CMD Prabhakar Rao. Exactly two weeks later, on Thursday at 11:01 am, 15,497 MW power was consumed.

Officials say that electricity consumption has been increasing by the day in the state. Due to increase in the cultivated area and mounting industrial requirements, the demand for electricity has increased substantially.

It is stated that the agricultural sector accounts for 37 per cent of the total electricity demand in the state. Among all states in the country, Telangana consumes maximum electricity for farming. The consumption was 14,160 MW in March 2022. Last December, 14,750 MW electricity was consumed, surpassing this record.

CMD Prabhakar Rao said that it has been predicted that an electricity demand of 15,000 MW will be recorded in the month of March. He said that as per Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s orders, all arrangements have been made in advance for supplying power without interruption.

It is estimated that there will be a demand for more than 16,000 MW during summer this year. “We are ready to supply electricity without any interruption regardless of demand,” he clarified.
