A local court on Thursday granted conditional bail to Dr Mohammed Saif, who was arrested in connection with the alleged suicide by medico Dharvath Preethi in Kakatiya Medical College here. Dr Preethi, who attempted suicide by injecting herself with a muscle relaxant on February 22, died after battling for life for four days in Hyderabad. Â
The court directed Saif to appear before the court every Friday afternoon for the next 16 weeks. The court warned that the bail would be revoked if attempts were made to tamper with evidence or threats are made.Â
The case related to the alleged harassment of Dr Preethi, a first-year postgraduate student in the Department of Anaesthesia, by Saif. Saif happened to be a senior student in the same department. The police arrested Saif on the charge of harassing Dr Preethi and thus abetting her to commit suicide. The arrest was made after the police analysed the WhatsApp chats which were sent by Saif allegedly targeting Dr Preethi.Â
The police found that WhatsApp messages humiliated Dr Preethi. The messages subjected her to harassment, the police said. Â
The incident created tension in the State with students staging protests and the political parties targeting the State government.Â
