The Indian BioEconomy has increased in value over the past 10 years, and COVID-19 has given the industry a much-needed lift. A rising industry and a crucial component of India’s aim to create a $5 trillion economy by 2024. India is positioned to become one of the top locations for bio-innovation and bio-manufacturing today.

Quantumzyme, a biotransformation company, specializes in clean and environmentally friendly chemistry. It uses state-of-the-art quantum mechanics, molecular modeling, and engineering techniques to improve enzyme activity, selectivity, and specificity.

Naveen Kulkarni, CEO, Quantumzyme shared the company’s goals and objectives and said, “We offer an array of alternatives for specific biocatalysis requirements. The importance of our QZyme WorkbenchTM in the effective creation of enzymes that have achieved outstanding outcomes on an industrial scale has already been acknowledged by clients from all over the globe.”

They are in the race to create innovative techniques to improve enzyme activity usage for crucial industrial processes, especially those that have an influence on society and the environment while assuring a workable and profitable solution. He shared, “We have specifically created a platform for the discovery and engineering of enzymes by integrating several scientific methodologies such as Quantum Mechanics and Molecular Dynamics. This sets us apart as a unique company that provides unique answers to various ‘Biocatalysis’ problems.”

Asked about the challenges they face after expanding their horizons, Naveen said, “The biggest challenge faced was to convince the industry that it is possible to address the critical challenges faced by them in their routine manufacturing process. Challenging the status quo by bringing about a different viewpoint to solve some of the biggest problems wasn’t easy. The combination of different skills to address long-standing problems like yield, and hazardous byproducts wasn’t perceived as a feasible approach.”

The key driver of the economy is technology development and access through licensing. Quantumzyme has developed IP and is licensing green chemistry solutions to its customers for complex chemical manufacturing processes. The people who live in Tier 2 and Tier 3 areas are impacted by the pollutants and difficult working circumstances, which raise health worries. Through the use of green chemical techniques and with the aid of the community at large, Quantumzyme’s technology has assisted in overcoming these difficulties.
