Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation engineering department officials have drawn up five-year plan for development of the city at a cost of Rs 6,660 crore. The GWMC sent the plan to the state government.
The Municipal Administration Department has asked the civic authorities to send proposals for development of the Warangal city, including the long-term projects to be taken up and the problems to be resolved.
The engineering officials of the department sent proposals for development of underground drainage, flood banks construction, development of main roads and internal roads, city beautification projects among other things. With the permission of the municipal commissioner Rizwan Basha, the authorities forwarded the report to the state government.
Construction of the storm-water drains at a cost of Rs 1250 crore is the need of the hour. During the past 20 years, at least 250 low-lying colonies in Hanamkonda and Warangal getting inundated. Proposals have been prepared for development of the nalas in Nayeemnagar, Bhadrakali Nagar, Bondivagu and so on with Rs 1,250 crore.
Under Vision-2048 and 24/7 drinking water supply programmes, a plan has been devised to supply drinking water at a cost of Rs 1,050 crore. The officials proposed to develop roads – both main roads and internal roads – at a cost of Rs 800 crore in the next five years.
They also drawn up a plan to develop underground drainage at a cost of Rs 1,900 crore. Further, the plan proposed construction of shopping complexes with Rs 200 crore, implement city beautification works with Rs 200 crore, tank bund beautification works with Rs 200 crore, development of main roads and junctions at a cost of Rs 100 crore, construction of mini-silparamams at Warangal and Hanamkonda with Rs 100 crore, development of four convention centres at a cost of Rs 100 crore and construction of two stadiums with Rs 50 crore, implementation of bio-mining project with Rs 80 crore, acquisition of modern vehicles by the civic body with Rs 80 crore, modernization of street lamps with Rs 80 crore, multi-level parking facilities at a cost of Rs 90 crore, building of community bhavans with Rs 70 crore, construction of cable-suspension bridges on Bhadrakali tank and Vaddepalli tank with Rs 60 crore each, construction of the building for the local body with Rs 50 crore, development of vacant sites with Rs 50 crore, development of six foot-over-bridges with Rs 30 crore, development of four swimming pools at a cost of Rs 20 crore, development of integrated markets with Rs 15 crore, development of modern slaughter houses with Rs 10 crore, construction of municipal guest house with Rs 10 crore, development of four shelters for the homeless with Rs 5 crore.
