Protests erupt against MLA for ignoring farmers’ plight

Must read

Lodging protest against the attitude of the MLA Rasamayi Balakishan, the farmers staged a sit-in on Monday, accusing him of ignoring their plight of farmers.

On Sunday, heavy gales followed by rains, accompanied by the hailstorm lashed the Galipalli and Tallapalli villages of Illantakunta mandal on Sunday night. The farmers staged a protest seeking the government’s support. The MLA visited the two villages on Monday morning but did not inspect the damaged crops. The standing paddy crop on hundreds of acres was damaged, inflicting huge losses on the farmers.

The MLA visited the IKP centres and inspected the paddy brought by the farmers and asked them not to be disheartened by the rains causing damage to the crops.

Why should the MLA ignore the farmers? Even 20 days after bringing the paddy to the procurement centres, the officials did not procure the paddy. It has become customary that the paddy is getting drenched at night in rain.

At the Tallapalli bus station, the farmers protested for about one hour disrupting traffic. The farmers cut the tree branches and put them across the road making it difficult for the vehicles to ply on the road.

The farmers relented after Tahsildar assured them of all help.
