Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya has urged people to follow the ideals of social reformer Jyotirao Phule and work towards eliminating social disparities.
On Sunday, the Governor unveiled the statues of Jyotirao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule on the premises of Venkateswarulu Municipal High School. The statues were installed by the Bandaru Eswaramma Self-Help Group in coordination with the National BC Sangh.
Speaking on the occasion, Dattatreya emphasised the need to draw inspiration from Phule, who championed education as a means to eradicate poverty. He recalled Phule’s efforts in promoting education for backward communities and lauded him for educating and empowering his wife, Savitribai Phule, as a social activist.
“Unveiling their statues is a great honour for me,” he remarked, adding that the nation’s development depends on women’s progress across all sectors. He also highlighted the reforms introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the ‘Viksit Bharat’ initiative.
Calling for unity among backward classes, he stressed the need for reservations to be implemented in proportion to their population. He assured that the government would extend necessary support to women from backward communities.
Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana, former MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, and State Wakf Board Chairman Abdul Aziz were among those present at the event
