In a tragic incident, a soldier died after mistakenly drinking pesticide, thinking it was water, at Kuchinapudi village in Pedavegi mandal on Thursday.
Pedavegi SI V. Rajendra Prasad informed the media that the deceased, Eethakota Hemanth Kumar (35), was serving in the Army. He had returned to his native village on leave 10 days ago.
The incident occurred when Kumar went to his agricultural field where pesticide had been recently applied to the crops. Agricultural workers had filled a water bottle with pesticide for use in the field. Kumar mistakenly believed the bottle contained drinking water and consumed it.
He collapsed immediately after ingesting the pesticide and was rushed to a private hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Kumar is survived by his wife, Vani, and two children.
Rambabu, the father of the deceased, has lodged a complaint with the police regarding the incident.
