Rahul’s family is Hindu Brahmin, says Jagga Reddy

The Leader of the Opposition (LOP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi’s, family belongs to the Hindu Brahmin community, TPCC Working President T. Jagga Reddy said.
He said that Rahul’s family, which “won freedom for the nation,” has been functioning irrespective of caste and religion. Rahul’s family never used caste for politics, he added.
However, as per Indian tradition, the wife’s caste will become the husband’s caste only after marriage. After marrying Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia became Sonia Gandhi, he said and added that it is in accordance with Indian tradition.
Addressing the media at the Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, Jagga Reddy said that Indira Gandhi’s husband Feroz Jehangir Gandhi used to work with Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom movement. Feroz Jehangir Gandhi’s name got shortened to Feroz Gandhi later, he said. Indira became Indira Gandhi after marrying Feroz Jehangir Gandhi, Jagga Reddy said.
Jagga Reddy said that Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi used to wear ‘Jandyam’ (thread). Rahul would also wear the thread after getting married, he said.
Criticising BJP leaders, particularly Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar, for asking the caste of Rahul Gandhi, Jagga Reddy said that Lal Krishna Advani was expected to become the Prime Minister after Atal Behari Vajpayee. But Narendra Modi became the PM displacing Advani. Did the BJP try to make Advani the PM, Jagga Reddy asked and added that there is ‘no future’ for the BJP if there is no Advani. There would have been ‘no existence’ for the BJP if Advani had not conducted his Rathyatra. Modi was behind Advani then. Modi became the CM of Gujarat only because of Advani, he said.
