Telangana has been allotted Rs 5,366 crore in the railway budget as per the Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw. However, experts say it is less for the development of projects and infrastructure related to railways.
The Union Minister said that the Indian Railways has been allocated Rs 2,62,000 crore for the year 2024-25. A significant amount of Rs 1.09 lakh crore has been allocated for safety related activities. The annual average budget outlay for combined Andhra Pradesh State during 2009-14 was only Rs 886 crore. The budget allocation to Telangana has been witnessing sustained increase with current year’s allocation.
The current budget is six times more than the average allocation done during the period of 2009-14 for the combined State.
He said, “Rs 32,946 crore has been allocated for ongoing railway projects such as develop of 40 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat station scheme. About 437 Road Over Bridges (RoB)/ Road Under Bridges (RUB) are being constructed. The railway network in Telangana is now 100 per cent electrified. About 65 kms (average per year) of the new railway tracks have been laid across Telangana State as compared to just 17 kms during 2009-2014,” he added.
The 40 stations to be developed are  Adilabad, Basar, Begumpet, Bhadrachalam Road, Gadwal, Hafizpeta, Hi-tech city, Huppuguda, Hyderabad, Jadcherla, Jangaon, Kacheguda, Kamareddi, Karimnagar, Kazipet Jn, Khammam, Lingampalli, Madhira, Mahbubabad, Mahbubnagar, Malakpet, Malkajgiri Jn, Mancherial, Medak, Medchal, Miryalaguda, Nalgonda, Nizamabad Jn, Peddapalli Jn, Ramagundam, Secunderabad, Shadnagar, Sri Bala Brahmeswara Jogulamba, Tandur, Umdanagar, Vikarabad, Warangal, Yadadri, Yakutpura, Zahirabad.
But experts pointed out that the railway budget for the State is very less for the development of projects, infrastructure and other aspects.
A retired  railway officer said, “The budget is not sufficient for the development of railway projects and infrastructure.”
Another railway official said, “It’s really pathetic to allocate such a small amount to the State”
