IMD issued a red alert warning of extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of Telangana until Friday, July 28. As per weather expert T Balaji, “Whenever there is some sunshine, there will be heat flux in atmosphere. Along with that there is strong low pressure area in Bay of Bengal. This combo always proves deadly and the same happened in Hyderabad, as also many parts of the State.”

As per TSDPS, monsoon is expected to be active to vigorous during the week, mainly over north and eastern districts of the State. Overall, rainfall deviation is expected to be above normal during the next week. Maximum temperatures are expected to be in the range of 30 degrees to 33 degrees C, while the minimum temperatures to be in the range of 22 degrees to 24 degrees C. As per IMD, heavy to very heavy, with extremely heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places in Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanamkonda districts. Heavy to very heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Janagaon and Siddipet districts.

According to IMD-Hyderabad advisory, the red alert is likely to cause massive water pooling on roads and low-lying areas, traffic congestion, wet and slippery roads, will cause tree and electric poles to get uprooted; could also create electricity, water and other social disturbances for a few hours, apart from drainage clogging.
