As pet owners, we all want to ensure our furry friends are safe and happy, especially during the rainy season. However, the rain can pose a variety of challenges for pets, from an increased risk of infections to a fear of thunderstorms.
Raj Kantak, founder, and CEO of Petzzco shares some tips on how to take care of your pets during rain:
Keep them dry: Just like us, pets don’t like getting wet. Make sure that your pet has access to a dry and comfortable shelter, such as a covered porch or a doghouse. Avoid leaving them outside for long periods of time, especially during heavy rains. If your pet does get wet, dry them off with a towel and keep them warm to prevent hypothermia.
Avoid waterlogging: Puddles and waterlogged areas can be breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which can transmit diseases such as dengue and malaria to pets. Keep your pets away from these areas, and make sure to clean up any standing water around your home.
Monitor their diet: During the rainy season, pets may be more prone to infections and digestive problems. Avoid feeding them wet or stale food, and ensure their water bowl is clean and filled with fresh water.
Consult your veterinarian for advice on any dietary changes that may be required during the rainy season.
Protect them from lightning and thunderstorms: Many pets are scared of thunderstorms and lightning. Arrange for a safe and secure hiding place, such as a crate or a covered area. You can also try calming aids such as pheromone sprays or a thunder vest to help soothe your pet’s anxiety.
Keep them clean: Pets tend to get muddy and dirty during the rainy season. Make sure to bathe them regularly and dry them off thoroughly. This will help to prevent skin infections and other related health issues.
Pets are an important part of our lives and our responsibility is to take care of them, especially during the changing weather conditions. Remember, our pets rely on us for their well-being, and we must make all the necessary efforts to keep them safe and comfortable. But, with a little extra care and attention, we can help our furry friends weather the storm and enjoy the rainy season just as much as we do.
