Movies based on true events end up attracting a lot of people’s attention naturally. And being in the Telugu-speaking states, a movie on the events that happened over here is now catching many people’s attention.
The movie, titled Rajadhani Files and directed by Bhanu and produced by Kanthanneni Ravi Shankar under the banner of TeluguOne Productions, stars Akhilan, Veena, Vinod Kumar, and Vani Vishwanath in key roles. The trailer for the film released recently received a good response from the audience, and it is now heading for a grand release in theatres on February 15.
Director Bhanu, who initially planned to title the movie Amaravati Files, sharing the reason to rename it to Rajadhani Files, said, “When we approached the censor board, they said to clear it with a censor certificate only if we make it fictional. Hence, we had to rename it to Rajadhani Files. Not just that, we had reworked the maps used in the movie and changed the names of characters during dubbing. The budget was also overspent because of this. After doing all the corrections, the censor certificate was issued.”
When one hears the title, it can easily be assumed that there is a political backdrop to this film; however, the director clarified that this is not a political film. “This is a film that shows the suffering of the people. People believed in a government and gave their lands. Another government came and imposed restrictions on them and created difficulties. People believed in the government and not the parties. We are going to show this topic in the movie. There is no political aspect to this except for the problems faced by the farmers, the psychological conflict, the people who troubled them, and the struggle of the farmers for justice. We have also shown the solution to the problem.”
He continued, “This is the story of farmers. We took the characters of those who came into their lives and troubled them but did not go into anyone’s personal life.”
The director himself went to Amaravati and shot this film with the affected farmers. “When a film is made based on true events, it is very rare that people who have experienced that event come and act in the film. In this case, the affected parties have played their roles! This has never happened anywhere in the world,” he said, adding, “When I earlier met farmers, they were all teary-eyed, and when Ravi Shankar told me that he wanted to make a movie on social responsibility, I felt this was apt. A girl was brutally beaten by the police. More than two hundred farmers lost their land. I wanted to make this film for the farmers who were in such mental conflict. Ravi Shankar was very encouraging in this journey.”
Director Bhanu wanted to make the film look and feel extremely natural so that the audience could feel the people’s pain and absorb the message being sent through the movie. He said that the film looks like the whole story is unfolding in front of your eyes, unlike regular commercial movies. Bhanu is very satisfied with the overall output of the film, and he is very confident that people will like this movie. “This is a people’s cinema, a film that is useful to society. It’s a universal movie that everyone likes,” he concluded.
