Minister for Health, Viddala Rajini, has said that there is a need for a new policy on organ transplantation and donation in the country. The 15th Conference of the Central Federation of Health Family Welfare, known as Swasthya Chintan Shivir, is currently being organised by the Central Government.

Addressing the conference on the second day on Saturday, Rajini highlighted the significant disparity between the number of available organs and the high demand. She stressed that out of every 100 individuals in need of organs, only one organ is available. This scarcity has led to the rise of illegal practices in organ transplantation and donation, which must be prevented. To address this issue, the minister called upon the central government to introduce a new policy that would ultimately benefit underprivileged patients.

Furthermore, Minister Rajini met with Union Minister Mansook Mandaviya during the event and appealed for the support of the Union government in various health sector initiatives undertaken by the state. She informed him about the inclusion of 600 cancer procedures under the Arogyasri health services, a program that costs the State government nearly Rs 600 crore annually.

The Minister also said that the Government of Andhra Pradesh has allocated Rs 350 crore to establish state-of-the-art equipment in teaching hospitals and state cancer centers. However, this has placed a financial burden on the state government, necessitating support from the central government.
