Ramakrishna Rao Set to Be Next CS — A Promise Finally Fulfilled

The guessing game is over—Special CS K Ramakrishna Rao is all set to take over as the next Chief Secretary. Not only the preferred choice of bureaucrats, he also has the Telangana Chief Minister’s backing. Yours truly had already written in this column about how RKR was the frontrunner, and now it’s happening. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time his name was in contention. Back in the KCR era, RKR was promised the CS post, but political and caste equations derailed that plan. Now, the Revanth Reddy government is finally delivering on that old commitment. In bureaucratic circles, there wasn’t much of a debate—when asked, a majority confidently picked RKR as the obvious choice, with some refusing to even consider alternatives. His tenure will be a short one, lasting a maximum of four months, but that hasn’t stopped the excitement. Looks like the bureaucrats got their way this time!
