The farmers of the Amaravati capital region met cricketer Ambati Rayudu and appealed to him to extend support for their agitation which he declined.
Ambati Rayudu offered special ‘pooja’ at the Veerabhadra Swamy temple at Velagapudi village in Thullur mandal on Monday.
On the occasion, a group of Amaravati farmers, who have been agitating against the three capital cities concept of the State government, met him and urged him to extend solidarity with the agitating farmers.
They also invited him to visit their ‘deeksha’ camp and listen to their problems. The farmers also urged him to raise the ‘Jai Amaravati’ slogan.
However, Ambati Rayudu rejected their appeal to go to their camp. He formally told them that Amaravati would be the capital of the State. Later, Rayudu left the place.
“We thought that Ambati Rayudu would extend support to the Amaravati farmers’ agitation and he would also come to our camp. But he left without extending his support which disappointed us,” the farmers told the media.
