Ready to welcome Sharmila to Congress: APCC chief

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president and former MLC Gidugu Rudra Raju has said that on completion of one year of All India Congress Committee former president Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, his party will organise yantras Statewide on September 7. The Congress Party will organise the celebrations from 5 pm to 6 pm in all 26 district headquarters, he said.

Addressing the media at the Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada on Tuesday, Rudra Raju said that Rahul Gandhi led the big Padayatra namely ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ covering around 4,081 km in 136 days from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. No other political party leader in the country has conducted such a Padayatra, he added.

Congress, NSUI, Youth Congress, Sevadal and other affiliated organisations will celebrate the occasion of a year of the Jodo Yatra. As part of this, State and national leaders will participate in a meeting that would take place in Vijayawada on September 7, he said.

Further, he said that Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Yatra inspired the party leadership and cadres across the country. It also gave an assurance to the Dalits, minorities, BCs and other people who are facing attacks from the ruling BJP, he added. After emerging victorious in the Karnataka State, the Congress will be registering victories in the ensuing Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Rajasthan, he added.

Meanwhile, he said that he would welcome YS Sharmila, the YSRTP chief, if she joined the party. Sharmila would be an added strength to his party and the PCC president would give full support to her. There would be vast changes in national politics after the INDIA alliance comes to rule, he claimed.

Later, Rudra Raju welcomed AP Rythu Sangham former president Venkata Rami Reddy and his followers from the Prakasam district who joined the Congress party by wearing party scarves.

APCC working presidents Sunkara Padmasri, Mastan Vali, Mahila Congress president Lam Tantia Kumari, Media Wing chairman Dr N Tulasi Reddy, Vijayawada city president Naraharasetti Narasimha Rao, and others were present.
