Relief centres set up to shift people from low-lying areas

Prakasam District Collector AS Dinesh Kumar has said that relief centres have been set up to shift people from low-lying areas and directed the official machinery to be on high alert in the wake of the cyclonic storm.
The Collector visited some villages in Kottapatnam mandal and spoke to the fishermen in the coastal area and their family members. In view of the weather department’s warnings that the impact of the storm will be high on Monday and Tuesday, relief centres have been set up in schools and cyclone centres in the coastal region, the Collector made it clear.
Officials told the Collector that arrangements have been made to evacuate people living in slums and dilapidated houses in 19 villages in the coastal region to this center, where essential food and drinking water facilities are being provided. The Collector warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea for fishing.
The Collector said that the district administration is taking measures to prevent any loss of life and property. The situation in the coastal area is constantly being monitored by the revenue, fisheries, and panchayat raj department officials along with the local police and marine police, the Collector stated.
Collector Dinesh Kumar advised the locals to follow the instructions given by the government administration. Boats, nets, and other equipment should be preserved carefully, he told the fishermen. The Collector said that measures were being taken by the government to build a pukka house for the people living in the slums.
Meanwhile, two SDRF teams have arrived here to swing into action, if needed, of which a 20-member SDRF team has been made available in Ongole and another 20-member team has been made available at Pakala in Singarayakonda mandal. Fisheries JC Chandrasekhar Reddy and other leaders were among those who accompanied the Collector.
