YSRCP supremo and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had all along galvanised his party leaders and cadre with the slogan ‘Why not 175?’; has just upped the ante by switching to ‘Why not 200?’
Jagan’s initial target was to win all the 175 Assembly seats in AP, given his party’s sweeping victory in the last Assembly polls. Given the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, he has modified the slogan to ‘Why not 200?’ highlighting the need for his party to win not just the 175 Assembly seat, but all the 25 Lok Sabha seats as well. Even his detractors may not look askance at Jagan’s complacence. For, YSRCP now accounts for all the 11 members from AP in the Rajya Sabha. The YSRCP has dislodged the Telugu Desam Party from the Rajya Sabha and emerged as the fourth biggest party with 11 members, after BJP (97), Congress (29) and TMC (13). So, there are many takers for Jagan’s new slogan, notwithstanding the opposition alliance’s posturing.
